Wear and tear of the teeth can be a natural part of the ageing process but here at SnapeHill we don’t think that’s reason enough for our patients to have to live with it.

We’re proud to be able to offer patients living with worn down teeth a suitable remedy to this common problem.

Some wearing down of the teeth is a natural side effect of getting older, but for some patients this can lead to the teeth appearing shorter and darker. This in turn can affect your sense of self, your self-confidence, and lead to feelings of self-consciousness, especially when smiling.

If you think your teeth have been particularly poorly affected by tooth wear, this could be due to a variety of different reasons. These include attrition, abrasion, and erosion. Attrition is usually caused by mechanical factors in the mouth and jaw, such as teeth grinding, an unbalanced bite, or issues with the jaw or back teeth. Abrasion can occur as a result of an outside substance or material, such as toothpaste and toothbrushes. Erosion is more often than not caused by food and drink that are high in acid.

At SnapeHill, we want all our patients to feel happy, confident, and good about themselves when they smile. That’s why Dr Akbar offers treatment for tooth wear. Because tooth wear can be worsened by attrition, one of the main ways to treat it is by addressing the patient’s bite, and making sure it is better aligned. We can achieve this through treatments such as crowns, veneers, and composite bonding.

If we find that the main cause of your worn teeth is bruxism – or teeth grinding – then we may also recommend treatment for this.
